Leonard Olien

Leonard has been working in the electricity sector for over20 years, including time with Shell Trading, Canadian Renewable Energy Association and as a consultant.  Leonard has performed financial and market analysis for projects and clients in most Canadian provinces, multiple US markets and Ireland.  Leonard has been involved in supporting policy activities through engagement with government decision makers, system operators and regulatory processes.  As the Director of Energy Storage for CanREA, Leonard authored “Laying the Foundation”, which was published in February, 2022.  The whitepaper outlines the actions necessary to ensure the regulatory frameworks and market structures are in place to enable energy storage deployment across Canada.

Leonard has a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematics from McGill University, and, concurrently with his work at Power Advisory, is completing his PhD in Mathematical Finance at the University of Calgary in the area of electricity price modelling.
