PIMS Education Outreach - Call for Proposals

Investing in the Future of Mathematical Sciences

The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) believes that training future generations of mathematical scientists cannot begin too early. Our education call for proposals aims to support this by funding innovative and engaging educational outreach programs.

We invite applications for support of educational activities in the mathematical sciences to take place in 2026, anywhere within the PIMS network. The deadline for applications is January 31st, 2026  for events taking place in 2026. Funding awards are typically in the range \$500-\$5000 and projects which include cost-sharing, or demonstrate external support are encouraged, as these factors may strengthen your proposal.

What We Fund

We welcome a wide range of proposals, and we are open to new and innovative educational initiatives. Examples of previously successful programs include:

  • Student programs and hands-on learning initiatives such as Math Mania, Summer Camps, Problem Solving Workshops, and Hackathons.
  • Teacher training and professional development initiatives such as Teacher Summer Schools and Teacher Training Workshops
  • Programs aimed to address historical inequalities and increase participation in the mathematical sciences for First nations, Inuit and Métis communities.

Submission Proceedure

Proposals must be submitted through this site, and request the following information:

  1. Proposal Title
  2. PIMS Site Involved
  3. Primary Organizer's institutional/work address
  4. Proposal Type, and activity requirements
  5. Location(s) of the proposed activities
  6. Amount requested from PIMS and a a detailed, itemized budget.
  7. Activity details
    1. High level summary of your project
    2. Intended Audience
    3. Any Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) considerations

In addition, you may also provide an optional PDF document with any additional supporting material.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Innovation and Impact: The creativity and potential reach of the activity
  • Mathematical content: The relevance and depth of mathematical science content
  • Feasibility: Clarity and feasibility of the provided budget, and the strength of the organizing team demonstrated and the scale of the impact relative to the amount requested
  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI): designed to ensure a diverse pool of potential participants.

Equity Statement

We believe that equity, diversity and inclusivity are essential to academic excellence in the mathematical sciences, and encourage input and applications from groups that have been historically underrepresented in the mathematical sciences. Proposals are evaluated against the criteria listed above which includes evaluation of how they promote equity, diversity and inclusion.

For more information about matters related to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, please see our EDI Committee page.
