Math Mania - Aboriginal Youth Tours
Topic
UVic Science, Technology, Engineering and Math outreach activities.
Details
The University of Victoria is providing opportunities for local First Nations school students (grades 1-12) to engage in hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math activities. This is achieved through the collaborative efforts of the Faculties of Engineering and Science and the Office of Indigenous affairs.
STEM hosted Aboriginal Youth Tours on campus for 116 students (grades 6-12) on February 19, 2009. Each student attended two workshops during the half-day event. Math Mania was one of their options and was attended by eighteen students in each of the two workshops. Student feedback was very positive for both Math Mania and for the event itself. One student commented “Math Mania ... has math in it which I LOVE.”
