Details
The theory of Group Rings has important connections to other fundamental areas, such as Number Theory, Topology, K-Theory, Representation Theory, Homological Algebra and of course to finite and infinite Group Theory and Ring Theory. Applications outside mathematics occur in Mathematical Physics (Crystallography) and within the last years also in Coding Theory. In particular, the interplay between group theorists and ring theorists has increased the research activity and produced a richer and more complete understanding of several problems under investigation.
The conference will be a meeting ground for the international experts (from different continents) to overview all the many recent results and to discuss the trends and the developments for the coming years. Many talks will be of in- terest to graduate students. Applications in other areas (possibly outside of Mathematics) will be discussed as well. A guideline for the further development of the theory should result.
The main highlights of the conference will be:
-The arithmetic of integral group rings, in particular the multiplicative structure and the group of units
-Polynomial growth and identities
-Orders and semigroup rings
-Lie structure
-Applications to Coding Theory
