Scientific Computation and Applied & Industrial Mathematics Seminar: Brian Wetton
Topic
Computational models of two electrochemical systems
Speakers
Details
Two electrochemical systems are described: a small scale, methanol fuel cell and an electrodialysis system to process waste water from oil and gas production. The second is the subject of current work, so it is likely that only preliminary results will be shown. Simple (algebraic and low dimensional) mathematical models for the systems are presented. It is shown that computational results of these simple models can give real insight into these devices, leading to improvements in design and operation. The work on the methanol fuel cell is joint with Alfred Lam and David Wilkinson. The ongoing work on the electrodialysis system is joint with Arman Bonakdarpour, Saad Dara, Michael Lindstrom and David Wilkinson.
