Annual Alberta Mathematics Dialogue (AMD) 2023
Details
The 20th Annual Alberta Mathematics Dialogue (AMD) 2023 will be held May 4- 5 (Thurs-Fri) 2023 at Mount Royal University, Calgary, Alberta. This event, formerly held jointly as the North-South Dialogue in Mathematics (which began in 2001 as a research meeting involving the mathematics departments at the University of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and the University of Lethbridge) and the Alberta Colleges Mathematics Conference (a meeting mostly about pedagogy involving math faculty at Alberta colleges), has been renamed in 2014. The new name reflects the fact that it has long been held as a single meeting in which dialogue about both research and teaching occurs in an integrated way.
The meeting will provide an opportunity to meet with colleagues from many of Alberta’s postsecondary institutions and beyond. Topics of discussion include research, teaching, technology, funding, curriculum, and other ideas of common interest to post-secondary mathematics departments in Alberta and beyond.
The conference will feature four plenary talks (fifty minutes lectures) and about thirty shorter (twenty to thirty minutes) talks organized into sessions.
Invited Speakers:
Dr. Kristine Bauer (University of Calgary, PIMS Co-Director Industry),
Dr. Edward Doolittle (First Nations University of Canada)
Dr. Terry Gannon (University of Alberta, former chair of the department),
Dr. Malabika Pramanik (University of British Columbia, BIRS Director)
We invite attendees to contribute, if they wish, to mathematical talks of any kind. We particularly encourage talks in the areas of Linear Algebra, Data Science, Financial Mathematics, Analysis, Algebra, Combinatorics & Number Theory, Differential equations, Mathematical Modelling, Statistics, and Mathematics Teaching and Pedagogy. AMD 2023 will have parallel sessions in each of these areas (in addition to a session for undergraduate students and possibly other sessions).
Registration:
There is no registration fee, but you can help us by registering in advance here. The deadline for registration is March 15, 2023.
If you plan to attend AMD and/or give a talk and have not yet registered, you will need to do so at the following link: https://forms.gle/6rq8A1tDK6N4aoVS7.
