UAlberta Math Biology Seminar: Keith Tierney

Humans are affecting the planet in diverse ways. One of those that receives scant attention is the effect that chemicals are having on life. In this talk, I will use data from my lab on a variety of animal models, including invertebrates and vertebrates that have been exposed to a variety of chemicals or chemical mixtures, including dissolved oil constituents, municipal effluent, and components of sunscreen, to show that our chemicals are causing subtle effects on animal physiology and ‘personality’. The impact that this great (chemical) experiment is unknown, but the effects are inescapable.
