We study the moduli space of certain heterotic string theories defined via complex non--Kahler 3-folds with a holomorphic vector bundle that has a connection that is Hermitian Yang-Mills. A consideration of symmetries naturally leads to fibering the non--Kahler manifolds (and bundle) over their moduli space. On this fibration we put some additional tensor structures and one finds some surprising relations between the tensors. The end result we call universal geometry. My aim is to sketch out all of this. No real knowledge of string theory required.
