UBC Math Department Colloquium: James Wilson
Topic
Detecting Cluster Patterns in Tensor Data using Lie Theory
Speakers
Details
I'll introduce a class of cluster patterns for tensor data used in pattern matching, outlier detections, statistics and signal processing. Then I will show they are all shadows of a general pattern detected efficiently by algebra, specifically Lie theory. It is a new direction for the subject with lots of open questions in need of new theory and better applied math tools alike. No prior knowledge of tensors or Lie theory is assumed.
