PIMS CRG Seminar / Asymptotic Geometric Analysis, Convex and Discrete Geometry, and Combinatorics: Boaz Klartag
Topic
The effectiveness of the convexity assumption in high dimensions
Speakers
Details
Join us as we survey five years of progress on the distribution of mass in high-dimensional convex bodies and probability distributions. This talk explores how convexity assumptions provide a powerful alternative source of regularity in high dimensions, mirroring structured settings like spheres and Gaussian measures. We will dive into how Lipschitz functions concentrate, the optimality of half-spaces, and the driving role of Bourgain’s slicing problem in recent breakthroughs. Based on joint works with P. Bizeul and J. Lehec, this session invites researchers to connect and discuss these geometric phenomena.

About PIMS CRG:
The PIMS Collaborative Research Group (2026–2029) brings together researchers in asymptotic geometric analysis, convex and discrete geometry, and combinatorics to study the structure of high-dimensional convex bodies, geometric and functional inequalities, and the combinatorial phenomena they give rise to. The group spans the University of Calgary, the University of Alberta, the University of Manitoba, and the University of Washington.
