CNRS-PIMS Researcher Gregory Miermont wins EMS Prize
On Monday, July 2 2012, Gregory Miermont (Universite Paris-Sud) received one of ten European Mathematical Society (EMS) Prizes, at the 6th European Congress of Mathematics in Krakow, Poland. EMS prizes are awarded once every four years to young researchers of European nationality or working in Europe, in recognition of excellent mathematical contributions.
Miermont was awarded the prize "for his outstanding work on scaling limits of random structures such as trees and random planar maps, and his highly innovative insight in the treatment of random metrics" (http://www.euro-math-soc.eu/prizewinners.html).
Miermont has been visiting PIMS and the Mathematics Department at UBC during the 2011-12 academic year, funded by the French Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) through the Unite Mixte Internationale 3069 established at PIMS in 2007. Among other activities during his visit, Miermont gave a course at the PIMS-Mprime Summer School in Probability this June.
