Pole-to-pole oscillations of Min proteins regulate the site of cell division, in Escherichia coli cells. In solution, atop a supported lipid bilayer, Min proteins form dynamic structures, such as traveling waves and spiral waves, which have been...

The talk concerns limit behaviors of stationary measures of diffusion processes generated from white-noise perturbed systems of ordinary differential equations. By relaxing the notion of Lyapunov functions associated with the stationary Fokker-Planck...

There are a number of seminal two-dimensional lattice models that are integrable, but have only been partially solved, in the sense that only some properties are fully known (e.g. the two-dimensional Ising model, where the free-energy is known, but...

We are interested in classifying all finite groups which can act on a finite CW-complex homotopy equivalent to a sphere, such that all isotropy subgroups are rank one groups, i.e., they do not include Z/pxZ/p for any prime p. The equivalent question...

Given two smooth maps of manifolds f:M \to L and g:N \to L, if they are not transverse, the fibered product M \times_L N may not exist, or may not have the correct cohomological properties. In the world of derived manifolds, such a fibered product...

Ramanujan graphs are k-regular graphs admitting optimal connectivity properties (namely, optimal expanders). Infinite families of such graphs were first constructed by Lubotzky, Phillips and Sarnak in 1988 by relating the spectrum of a graph with...

Donaldson-Thomas invariants are fundamental deformation invariants of Calabi-Yau threefolds. We describe a recent conjecture of Oberdieck and Pandharipande which predicts that the (three variable) generating function for the Donaldson-Thomas...

Galois cohomological invariants for algebraic groups are an arithmetic analogue of characteristic classes in algebraic topology; Totaro and Guillot connected them to unramified étale cohomology and Rost’s higher Chow Groups. In his PhD thesis...

The Betti geometric Langlands program is a new physics-inspired variant of the [de Rham] geometric Langlands program, in which the geometry of algebraic curves is replaced by the topology of surfaces. It has close relations to representation theory...

The computation of the semiclassical Schrödinger equation presents a number of difficult challenges because of the presence of high oscillation and the need to respect unitarity. Typical strategy involves a spectral method in space and Strang's...

Directions

The PIMS offices are located on the 4th floor of the Earth Sciences Building (2207 Main Mall). If using the elevator, our offices will be directly across when you get to the 4th floor. If using the main staircase, the offices will be to your right once you reach the 4th floor.

Airport to PIMS UBC by Bus

From Vancouver Airport (YVR), take the Canada Line Skytrain to Broadway City Hall Station. Get off the platform and walk up to street level. Cross the street and you should see the #99Bline UBC stop outside the Lululemon store. You can take this bus all the way out to UBC. Detailed route information is available through translink's route planner or via google maps. See translink's fare page for up to date prices.

Airport to PIMS UBC by car

To drive from Vancouver Airport (YVR) to UBC, follow signs for Vancouver City Center when leaving the airport. After crossing the Arthur Laing bridge, follow 70th avenue/Marine Drive all the way out to UBC's Point Grey campus. The PIMS offices are in the Earth Science Building on Main Mall which doesn't permit vehicular traffic. The nearest parking lot (or drop off point for Taxis) is on West Mall near the West Parkade at the intersection of West Mall and Bio. Sciences Road (see this map).

Downtown Vancouver to PIMS UBC by car

When leaving Downtown Vancouver, follow signs for UBC (see this map).

Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal to PIMS UBC by car

Follow directions for Vancouver airport until you reach the City of Vancouver, then follow the directions above for travelling from the airport.

US Border to PIMS UBC by car

Follow directions for Vancouver until you reach the City of Vancouver, then follow the directions above for travelling to PIMS from the airport. Please make sure you have the correct travel documents and follow instructions

Travelling between UBC and SFU by bus

There are many public transit options for travel between UBC and SFU but please note the universities are at opposite ends of Vancouver (SFU is actually in Burnaby) and travel can take an hour or more. Visit Translink for more travel options.
