Alberta Graduate Mathematics and Statistics Conference
Details
The Alberta Graduate Mathematics and Statistics Conference (AGMSC) is a conference running from July 6, 2022 – July 8, 2022 hosted by the Graduate University Mathematics Society (GUMS) club at the University of Calgary. This conference is a place for graduate students in mathematics, statistics, biostatistics, actuarial science, data science, and other related fields from Alberta to meet and share their research with peers from other universities who work in related areas. This three-day conference will provide students a chance to not only present their work to audiences with relevant background and interest, but also give students an opportunity to make lasting connections with whom they can collaborate or simply share ideas down the road in their careers.
The AGMSC will also ensure that graduate students have ample opportunity to practice talks at various levels of audience background: There will be plenary talks aimed at the broader university community for people to share how mathematics or statistics enrich the community in general, with speakers from each of pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics; there will be plenary talks aimed at the general conference attendees where graduate students will be able to give talks to people with technical, but non-specialist, backgrounds, with speakers from each of pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics; and there will be non-plenary talks aimed at more specialized audiences split into the groups of pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and statistics. In addition to having this ample chance to give talks, the AGMSC will also have non-plenary talks split into two groups at a time in order to build the graduate community between sub-disciplines within mathematics and statistics.
