PIMS Education Call for Proposals

PIMS believes that training the next generation of mathematical scientists and promoting diversity within mathematics cannot begin too early.

The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) welcomes applications for support of education activities in the mathematical sciences on an ongoing basis. Awards will be considered for activities requesting between \$500 up to \$5000. Proposals will be reviewed by the PIMS Education Review Panel on an ongoing basis with awards being subject to available funding. Where appropriate, cost sharing is encouraged and can enhance the probability of success.

We welcome proposals aimed at creating opportunities for students to learn (Math Fairs, Math Mania, Summer Camps, Problem Solving Workshops, Hackathons), for teachers to improve their knowledge of mathematics, statistics and computer science and their capacity to teach (Teacher training workshops). PIMS welcomes proposals that address historical challenges faced by First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. We encourage submissions with new ideas!

Submission Proceedure

Proposals must be submitted through this site. You will be asked to provide the following information:

 

  1. Title of proposal.
  2. PIMS Site Involved.
  3. Primary Organizer's work address.
  4. Proposal Type, and details of requirements for that type of activity.
  5. Location(s) of your activities
  6. Amount of funding requested from PIMS and an itemized budget.
  7. Activity details
    1. Including a high level summary
    2. Details of the intended audience
    3. Details of any EDI considerations for your activity

 

In addition to the required information listed above, you may also provide an optional PDF document with any additional details supporting your proposal.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Innovative ideas and impact.
  • Mathematical content.
  • Feasibility-impact is commensurate with funding amount requested; defined organization team in place; budget appropriateness and clarity; availability of matching funds.
  • Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity– designed to ensure a diverse pool of potential participants.
