ELMACON & Math Challengers Question Seminar
Topic
This is a workshop on creating new problems for the Math Challengers and ELMACON competitions. We are inviting any interested participants to join us to work on creating and evaluating new questions for these events.
Details
On May 25th, Math Challengers and ELMACON are inviting volunteers to come to UBC for a workshop on creating new problems for these two contests. For over 20 years, these contests have challenged students with creative and innovative questions, aiming to develop and help celebrate student's mathematical talent.
- ELMACON: PIMS Elementary Math Contest, targeting grades 5, 6, and 7.
- Math Challengers: targeting grades 8, 9, and 10.
The format of the workshop will include some brief talks on "What makes a good math contest question" followed by some small group work where we will try to come up with some ideas for new questions. Anyone with an interest in math is welcome to come and we welcome your most fiendish mathematical ideas!
A light lunch will be provided for workshop participants at UBC.
