Clifton Cunningham named as PIMS Site Director, Calgary
Clifton Cunningham received his doctorate from the University of Toronto in 1997. After a postdoc at the University of Massachusetts and visiting positions in Paris at the Ecole Normale Superieure, he moved to the University of Calgary where he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. He has also held visiting positions at the Institut des Hautes Etudes Scientifiques and the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (France). Dr. Cunningham has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Mathematical Society since 2007, and started his 3-year term as PIMS Calgary Site Director on July 1, 2008. Dr. Cunningham's research uses group representation theory, algebraic geometry and number theory to work on problems relating to the Langlands Programme, including results on the computability of local orbital integrals and distribution characters.
