Details
International Women’s Day takes place annually to recognize and celebrate cis and trans women’s achievements, challenge biases, and reflect on and advance efforts towards greater gender equality. The theme of this year’s IWD is Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress. We’re honoured to welcome Dr. Shohini Ghose, Professor of Physics & Computer Science at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, to UBC Vancouver on March 22 as part of UBC’s IWD celebrations for a book signing and talk.
Dr. Ghose is the author of two books, the latest (published in October 2023) is titled Her Space, Her Time: How Trailblazing Women Scientists Decoded the Hidden Universe, and will be the topic of her talk. Copies of the book will be available for purchase on-site. For readers with print disabilities, alternate formats of the book (e.g., braille) are available through the Centre for Equitable Library Access.
Dr. Ghose is also a TED Senior Fellow, NSERC Chair for Women in Science & Engineering, Director, Research & Programs, Laurier Centre for Women in Science, and Chief Technology Officer of the Quantum Algorithms Institute.
Engaging and accessible to scientists and non-scientists alike, Dr. Ghose’s thoroughly researched book tells the inspiring stories of women physicists and astronomers from around the world who discovered fundamental rules of the universe and whose critical roles and contributions have not always been well-acknowledged.
