PIMS receives Simons Foundation Award for new programs and collaborations
The Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) is pleased to announce that it has received a prestigious Simons Foundation Targeted Grants to Institutes award. The Targeted Grants to Institutes program supports institutes or centers in mathematics, theoretical physics and theoretical computer science through funding to strengthen contacts within the international scientific community. The award is a three-year award, starting in July 2022.
This grant will support PIMS partnerships with other institutes in Canada and across the world, including exchanges of researchers; create a PIMS-Simons postdoctoral fellow program; and facilitate a partnership between PIMS and the Banff International Research Centre (BIRS) to support mid-career mathematicians from underrepresented groups in their research programs. Funding will also be used to support researchers at the PIMS-hosted Pacific Rim Mathematical Congress in Vancouver, in December 2022.
“This grant will allow PIMS to expand and elevate our international research profile and partnerships. We are grateful to the Simons Foundation for recognizing the excellent work of PIMS researchers and the innovative nature of our future plans” noted Jayadev Athreya, the Interim Director at PIMS.
