About the position

The PIMS Board of Directors appoints two faculty members at PIMS Member Universities as Co-Directors as a result of a competitive search process. The PIMS Co-Directors will report to the PIMS Director, serve for up to 5 years and may be reappointed for at most one additional term of up to 5 years.

 

Co-Director, Programs
 

The Co-Director, Programs is responsible for the running of PIMS programs that aim to create and support academic research communities. In particular, the portfolio of Co-Director, Programs includes:
 

  1. Primarily in charge of planning and executing "targeted PIMS programs" that create and sustain research communities. Manages PIMS Thematic Summers, PIMS Institutional Exchange Programs, PIMS/BIRS Team Up, FYIG, XML, summer schools like IDMS.
  2. Contributes to all strategic decisions for PIMS and is primarily responsible for those related to thematic research activity (e.g., quantum, climate or oceans).
  3. Recruit and provide guidance and feedback for thematic research proposals. Primarily responsible for providing guidance/feedback for Letters of Intent and Proposals for CRGs and PRNs.
  4. Primarily responsible for structuring partnerships or MOUs with institutional partners in North America and abroad (except for the CNRS partnership which is managed by the Director). Actively pursues MOUs with mathematical science institutes abroad, with a particular focus on North and Latin America.
  5. Primarily responsible for identifying institutional/government grant proposal opportunities to support PIMS thematic and international research activities, and serve as PI on such proposals when appropriate.
  6. Primarily responsible for PIMS PDF competition, in coordination with the Director and other Co-Director(s). Serves as chair of the PIMS PDF Committee.
  7. Primarily responsible for centrally supported network-wide research activities. Manages PIMS Network-wide Colloquium.
  8. Responsible for management of any additional PIMS staff at the Member Institution where they are employed.
  9. Responsible for EDI policy for PIMS, in coordination with the Director and other Co-Director(s).
